Hitters often think EVERYTHING is the technical, that if they had the “perfect” swing they’d bat 1.000.
The reality of hitting is you can have a good swing, and still have a bad outcome.
The way to know whether a bad outcome WAS technical, is to ask yourself post AB:
1) was this the pitch I was looking for
2) was I on time
If both are true, and you DIDN’T do damage, THAT is when you know you made a technical error
In the above example from some of our weekend live at bats, he was on time, and geared for fastball, which he got: 82mph FB middle middle.
But instead of damage, he fouled it straight back: technical error
Now it becomes a matter of correctly identifying what needs to be fixed, and going to work on it
